Query re employment permit for carer in a private home
Hi, I am just wondering if anyone has come across a private individual setting up a company or partnership for the purposes of employing a carer in a elderly person's home. The employment permit for carer of a person with exceptional medical needs is not applicable for my client so according to the DETE the only people that can apply for an employment permit is a carer or healthcare assistant employed through a healthcare agency as opposed to a private individual so i am wondering if it is possible for a person to set up a company for this purpose even though it is just for an individual family member. Has anyone come across this before?

I looked into it Louise but the chances of success are very low. DETE don’t exercise discretion. In my case the proposed employer (or at least the family) didn’t want to try to proceed as it was too daunting. They sourced an alternative carer linked to the proposed employee. The proposed employee is looking at applying for a carer employment permit with a large established employer.
