Ukrainian nationals in 2025
I’ve had a few recent queries from Ukrainians about applying for international protection given the situation at the moment. The Ukrainian community have a growing fear that Temporary Protection may be discontinued after the most recent extension to March 2026. They feel that a settlement may be forced on Ukraine. There may be a ceasefire but the country may be crippled and a client state.
I think this is an area where IILA may wish to engage with the Minister?!
Any views on the current situation? Any views on Ukrainians applying for IP over TPD permission?

My only comment is that under Section 60(14) of the 2015 Act a person cannot simultaneously be an applicant for international protection and a beneficiary of temporary protection - I don't know if that is actually being enforced, but if so, it would seem to mean a Ukrainian can't apply for IP without losing their TP status so they would have to be advised of that risk.
